St Mary’s is a happy and welcoming primary school. We offer our pupils a warm and caring atmosphere that nurtures every individual and challenges all abilities so that all our children fulfil their potential. We are a Voluntary Aided co-educational Primary School catering for the spiritual, physical, aesthetic, social and intellectual needs of children between the ages of 3 and 11 years. Our school is enriched by close links with our wider and global communities and these help us to achieve the high standards we set for ourselves and our pupils.
We receive children from a number of Catholic parishes; St Peter’s in Gorleston, St Mary’s in Great Yarmouth and further afield. Children also come to our school from other Christian religions, those who are sympathetic with the Catholic faith and also from other religions within the local community as well as children with no specific religious belief. We can take children from 3 years old who will start in our morning nursery. Once children enter the Reception year they stay with us until they end Year Six, age 11. The majority of pupils move to Notre Dame Catholic High School in Norwich for which we are a feeder school. Other children will enter local High schools.
At the heart of St Mary’s is the belief in family. We are a school family recognising each individual as a loved and valued member of that family. We also recognise that we are part of God’s family and our school is able to enrich children’s understanding and experiences of being a member of God’s family. Our work with our children holds each family integral to its aims and mission. We take every possible opportunity to support our families as they bring their children up either as practising Catholics or in sympathy with the teachings of the Catholic church.
We have an active and well supported Friends of St Mary’s. This dedicated group of parents help us to enrich the experiences and opportunities we provide for our pupils, we are very grateful for their time and effort.
